Sharp-tongued comedienne Chelsea Handler will host next month’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, the network revealed in a press statement on Wednesday.
Chelsea beamed with pride as she made the announcement on her E! late-night gabfest,Chelsea Lately, telling the audience: “Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of ‘Chelsea Lately.’ And that’s why I will be hosting [the show].”
Chelsea replaces British comic Russell Brand, who hosted the last two VMA broadcasts. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 12 @ 9 PM.

Taylor Swift talked to Us about Kanye West taking to the stage with her:‘Well, I was standing on stage because I was really excited because I had just won the award. And then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.
I’ve been getting so many text messages and everybody’s been really nice. So I’ve had a really, really fun night. It’s been interesting definitely. It’s definitely been an interesting night.. Taylor said she was once a fan of Kanye, ‘I don’t know him, and I’ve never met him, so… I don’t want to start anything because I had a great night tonight.’
On Beyonce inviting her on stage: ‘They told me to stand by the side of the stage, and I didn’t really know what was going to go down. But I thought it was so wonderful and gracious of her to do what she’s always done. She’s always been a great person before anything else. Before the talented artist, the superstar, she’s always been a great person and I just, I thought I couldn’t love Beyonce more tonight, than tonight.’

Taylor Swift is set to perform You Belong With Me this weekend at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York, and she reveals that anything can happen!
In the past Taylor has performed in the pouring rain and collaborated with artists outside of her style, so what exactly does she have planned now?
“‘You Belong With Me’ is not going to be as different musically as it’s going to be different in that I’ve never done anything on an awards show like I’m going to do on this one,” she teased to MTV, saying that the show’s location adds to the allure of her performance. “It’s in New York, so anything can happen.”
Taylor also said she’d like to pop up somewhere outside of Radio City Music Hall. “I would love to perform somewhere outside of the venue,” she said. “I think it could be really cool if it was unlike anything I’ve ever done at an awards show, which would mean doing it at a different location.”
Last year at the VMAs several of the performers were outside of the main stage. But it was in a contained lot! I’m not sure what they’re going to do this time around.

Taylor Swift will perform live at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards later this summer for the first time.
The country singing sensation is the first performer to be confirmed for the awards show, set for Sept. 13 in New York City.
“I’m so excited that MTV and the VMAs have invited me to perform, because I think this year’s show will be unlike anything they’ve ever done!” Taylor says. “I love incorporating theatrics into my performances,” Swift says, “and the VMAs have always allowed artists to run with that. MTV has been so good to me, and I could not be more excited about this year’s VMAs.”
Last year, Taylor debuted on the VMA scene by introducing her then boyfriend’s band, the Jonas Brothers.
