Looks like Chace Crawford won’t be filling Kevin Bacon’s shoes after all in the remake of the iconic 1984 movie Footloose. Crawford’s rep has confirmed that the Gossip Girl hottie has backed out of the dance-loving lead in the remake. Sources tell that the studio is now likely to cast an unknown, possibly launching a nationwide search for the role. (Previously, Zac Efron was attached to the role but dropped out to avoid being typecast as the musicals guy.)

Good news for Efron fans, while the actor chose to pass on Footloose, it seems that Zac won’t be out of the media eye for long. Zac Efron has just confirmed to playing the title role in Warner Bros.’ planned live-action version of the popular ’60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon show Jonny Quest.

L.A. Times‘ “Hero Complex” got the confirmation but mentions that Warner Bros. have been considering changing the name of the property to avoid the inevitably negative comparisons to Warner Bros.’ flop Speed Racer, another live action movie based on a popular cartoon.

There’s no word on who might be directing although previous rumors have pegged the team of Andy Fickman and Dwayne Johnson possibly reuniting for the third time after the recent Race to Witch Mountain.

Zac Efron Death & Life

After backing out of Footloose, Zac Efron is now in negotiations to play in the upcoming film,’The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud’.

 From Variety:

Former “Good Morning America” exec producer Ben Sherwood wrote the book, about a caretaker at a cemetery who manages to have weekly meetings with a younger brother whose accidental death he feels was his fault.

Marc Platt is producing, and while Efron’s deal is still being negotiated, Steers is set and has already begun polishing a script originally written by Craig Pearce, with James Schamus and Lewis Colick also turning in drafts.

Production will begin in July. The Efron-Steers collaboration “17 Again” will be released by New Line/Warner Bros. on April 17.
