Dakota Fanning was left “traumatized” after she scored an own goal in a soccer match.
The 16-year-old actress – who can currently be seen playing evil Volturi vampire in ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ – was picked to be part of the school’s team but admits she wasn’t really a natural player.
She said: “I did play soccer and my team was called the Spice Girls, I was Baby Spice. I was playing in a game one day and I got the ball for the first time and I was so excited and I was running and running.
“There was nobody around me, I was thinking this is an easy game, then I kicked it into the goal and was so excited.
“I turned around and nobody was cheering for me and nobody was proud of me – and I then realized I’d kicked it in the wrong goal – so I quit soccer. I was traumatized!”
Although most of Dakota’s family are keen sportspeople, she says their enthusiasm and talent for it hasn’t rubbed off on her.
She said in an interview on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’: “My mom went to college on a full scholarship for tennis, my dad played minor-league baseball and my grandfather was a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. So before I started acting the plan for me was to be a tennis player – that was the plan for me and my mom had me in tennis classes.
“One day I went to her and told her I really love the outfits but it’s just too hot – it’s just too hot for me to play tennis and I didn’t want to play anymore.”
Katy Perry has revealed she is soccer widow – because fiance Russell Brand is so obsessed with the World Cup.
The couple got to spend a rare day off together yesterday (23.06.10) but huge soccer fan Russell was reluctant to go out because he wanted to watch England’s crucial match against Slovenia which they needed to win to progress in the tournament in South Africa.
She said in an interview with UK station BBC Radio 1: “It’s funny because he’s always there for me and we’re always there for each other, but yesterday we had a day off – he had a day off as well because he’s been busy promoting his movie (‘Get Him to the Greek’) – and the game was on yesterday and everybody in England, everywhere, was quiet, no one is on the street. We were watching the game and I was like messing with him saying, ‘Darling I really want to go outside.’ And he was so caught, he was like, ‘But the game, the game…’ But I knew I wasn’t gonna pull him away from that game. So I just took a nap.”
Katy says Russell is so engrossed in the tournament he stays up late most nights on the internet reading about the latest developments with the teams.
She added: “Everything is about football right now. It’s like, when I was with him last night he was up late watching football. And he was online reading all about it and it’s like, ‘How much can you read?’ “
