Warner Music has said it will stop licensing its songs to free music streaming services.
Warner chief executive Edgar Bronfman Jr said: “Free streaming services are clearly not net positive for the industry and as far as Warner Music is concerned will not be licensed.
“The ‘get all your music you want for free, and then maybe with a few bells and whistles we can move you to a premium price’ strategy is not the kind of approach to business that we will be supporting in the future.”
It is not clear whether Warner will remove its music from existing services or decline to do deals with new outlets.
He said the focus would be on promoting streaming services that require payment, which he said could appeal beyond those who currently pay for downloads in stores such as Apple’s iTunes.
Warner Music currently has a list of signed artists to their label including: Lily Allen, Ashley Tisdale, Colbie Caillat, IYAZ, LIGHTS, Meg & Dia, NeverShoutNever!,Rilo Kiley, Regina Spektor, Tegan & Sara, Timbaland & The Veronicas.
Listening to their latest music on Myspace Music, Youtube, LastFM and others are all up for question as to if their artists will be able to continue posting music, but as it stands now, all free music streams will be discontinued.

Vampire Weekend‘s new album Contra debuted as the top-selling album on the Billboard charts last week, selling over 124,000 copies. It is only the 12th independently distributed album to hit number 1.
Congrats, gentlemen!

Bringing a fresh change to the punk/rock scene, Disco Curtis is quickly gaining an ever-growing fan base by bringing a pure and simple sound back to music.
Plucking from their influences (Say Anything, Dashboard Confessional, All-American Rejects, Blink-182) with the skilled craftsmanship of their musical upbringing, Disco Curtis genre-blending rock sound is undeniably fresh — chock full of savory and honest lyrics about love and self-introspection, which come alive on tracks like the propulsive Incendiary Devices and Surprise Me; but it’s the crush-worthy anthem Ashley that showcases Disco Curtis on the spot likeability.
The band’s overall mission is pretty basic: keeping communication open between them and their fans. “No matter what, we’re never going to change the way we treat our fans and the ways we invest time in them, just like the way they invest time in us” Novak says. “Regardless of what changes, we always want to have true relationships with our fans. That is our golden rule.”
Such a mantra was definitely put to the test during the band’s first-ever tour this past October, where they performed acoustic shows at select Hot Topic locations across the U.S. “Honestly, I can’t think of a better way of developing the band and helping us get started than Hot Topic” Novak says. “It was a really cool experience for us.”
Disco Curtis is wide-eyed for what’s in store for 2010. While plans to write and record a host of new material are already in the works, they’ll also be spending the winter months prepping for their appearance on second half of the annual Vans Warped Tour, with dates slated for July 20th through August 15th. The Play With Fire, Get Burned EP is currently available for download via iTunes.
Their current fan favorite is their innovative cover of Lady Gaga’s debut hit, “Just Dance.”

Are you excited for the soundtrack and the movie?
Leighton Meester is hoping to become recognized as more than an actress– having been a part of Cobra Starship’s hit song “Good Girls Go Bad” and her own single “Somebody To Love” currently on the radio. Aiming for a duel career as a singer, she has welcomed a musical mentor.
“Recently I’ve spent a lot of time with Cyndi Lauper, and she’s a legend,” says Meester. “She gave me the advice: Never sell your publishing, so I’ll take that.”
The thrill of the stage has Meester – who’s worked with Lil Wayne, Robin Thicke and Adam Lambert– hooked.
“I get more excited than nervous, and I feel like that’s the best kind of energy to have,” the TV actress, 23, told PEOPLE . The performance, she says, is “cute, sexy … I’m just having the time of my life, and I hope it continues.”

Over the past week, Mark Hoppus and Pete Wentz have rekindled their Twitter relationship which mentioned two new mystery songs, the pair were working on together.
In an e-mail to MTV News, Wentz revealed that he and Hoppus had completed a song for the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s upcoming “Alice in Wonderland,” the same soundtrack that features a new song from All Time Low.
“We did a song for ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ [and we] might do a few more depending on when [Mark] goes in with Blink. [It] sounds nothing like Blink or Fall Out Boy. Mark understands songwriting on a completely different level. It’s awesome to have a chance to sit in a room with him and watch him work out a melody.”
Wentz added that, though he and Hoppus plan to record more songs, this isn’t the beginning of some new supergroup. It’s more like two friends getting together and jamming. After all, both of them have rather open schedules at the moment.
“It’s just for fun. It’s not a band or even a project at this state,” Wentz wrote. “I think between me getting Starbucks on TMZand him gearing up for a summer of Blink, we have a lot on our hands.”
A spokesperson for Walt Disney Records — who will be releasing the soundtrack — told MTV News that at the moment, no track list has been confirmed but an announcement will be made “in the coming weeks.”
Today (1.06) is Forever The Sickest Kids’ singer, Johnathan Cook’s birthday. Happy Birthday!
