Katy Perry’s latest single ‘California Gurls’ has broken a US airplay record.
The song, which is currently at the top of both the US and UK singles charts, has received the most spins on radio over the course of a week ever.
Billboard reports that the track was played 11,816 times last week – an average of 90 plays per station.
The figure beats previous record holders Ke$ha and Lady GaGa, who take second and third position respectively with ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Bad Romance’.
According to the UK midweek charts, Perry is on course for a second week at number one with the song.
